Swamy Vivekananda Rock Memorial:
Swamy Vivekananda Rock Memorial is the most popular tourist attraction in Vavathurai, Kanyakumari. This Vivekananda Memorial Rock is located 500 Meters away from the mainland of Vavathurai. People can reach Vivekananda Rock by boat/ cruise operated by Tamilnadu Tourism Development. This Memorial Rock was built and inaugurated on September 1970 by the president of India Shri.V.V.Giri, in honor of Swamy Vivekananda. Swamy Vivekananda have attained enlightenment in this rock and there is a place called Thiyana Mandabam or Dhyana Mandapam or Meditation Hall, where visitors can sit for a moment and meditate.
Swamy Vivekananda Rock Memorial consists of Vivekananda Dhyana Mandapam (Meditation Hall), Sabha Mandapam (Assembly Hall), Mukha Mandapam, Namashtubhyam.
Shripada Mandapam consists of Garbha Graham, Inner Prakaram, Outer Prakaram and Outer platform.
Vivekananda Rock is so beautiful, because is an island and rocks are surrounded by sea. There are two main structures in Memorial rock which includes Vivekananda Mandapam and Shripada Mandapam. Swamy Vivekananda came to this rock on 1892 before his Chicago trip to attend world religious conference on 1893. He performed mediation for two days and became a powerful spiritual leader.
From Vivekananda Memorial Rock, we can see the meeting point of all the three seas Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea clearly.
How to reach Vivekananda Rock: There is a boat service available everyday 8.00 AM to 4.00 PM, operated by Tamilnadu Government Tourism. Boat service will be cancelled in case of bad weather condition. Call the boating service at +91 04652 247012 for any confirmation.
